Sample Itineraries with Paradise Africa

Here are a few itineraries that have been planned in the recent past. There are many many more and one can mix and match, but hopefully these will give you a flavour of what we do. They are of course simply suggestions to give you an idea of what we recommend in a given time scale with rough ideas of costs.

The Southern Circuit

The main attractions  here are Selous Game Reserve and Ruaha National Park, both very wild, with differing eco systems and different species of wildlife. There are also the lesser known parks of Mikumi and Udzungwa which can also be visited if one is prepared to drive part of the time, which gives you the opportunity to see more of the beautiful country and some of its culture.

Day 1 Depending on your arrival time, we suggest you overnight in Dar es Salaam to start your safari refreshed the next day.

Days 2 - 4 Either fly, or if you are adventurous take the train, to Selous. Spend 3 nights here, 2 whole days exploring the lush pristine wilderness, on foot or in open sided vehicles. Lions are frequently seen and sometimes Wild Dog. You can also take a boat safari on the Rufiji River or one of its many lakes for a different view of Hippo and Crocodile.

Day 5 Drive around the beautiful Uluguru Mountains to Mikumi and spend 2 nights giving you time to explore this little known park with its abundant wildlife including a large Elephant population.Take a trip to see stunning waterfalls and birdlife at Udzungwa National Park, and its numerous species of primate.

Day 7 - 9 Drive on to Ruaha, through villages and countryside. Then spend 2 days exploring by vehicle and on foot. Cheetah, Leopard and Wild Dog are often seen . There are some 400 species of bird recorded here. Roan and Sable Antelope are also present in Ruaha, also both Greater and Lesser Kudu.

Day 10 -13 Fly direct to Zanzibar for 3 days of sun, sand and relaxation, before spending your last night in the historic World Heritage site of Stone Town.

Day 14 Fly back to Dar es Salaam for your international flight home.

This is simply one suggested itinerary for the southern circuit, but nothing is fixed and your suggestions are welcomed.

The Northern Circuit

Day 1 Depending on your arrival time, we suggest you overnight in Dar es Salaam to start your safari refreshed.

Day 2 Fly from Dar es Salaam to Arusha to commence your safari in a private 4WD vehicle with especially adapted roof for game viewing, and Drive to Tarangeri National Park. Afternoon game drive around this beautiful park. Take a night game drive outside the park for a different perspective.

Day 3 Drive to Lake Manyara for a short game drive in this small but pretty park,  then continue on to around the rift valley, with stunning views  en-route to Ngorongoro Crater.. Overnight

Day 4 Morning descend to the crater floor, for a game drive where nearly every species can be seen in Tanzania's 'Secret Garden'. In the afternoon a local Maasai will escort you on a walk around part of the crater rim. Overnight.

Day 5 Continue on to Serengeti via the 'Cradle of Mankind' Olduvia Gorge. Enter the park and game drive through the savannah to your accommodation. Overnight.

Day 6 & 7. Spend 2 whole days exploring this famous spectacular park which has the highest density of wildlife in Africa.

Day 8 - 13 Fly direct from the Serengeti to Zanzibar  for 6 nights of R & R before spending your last night in the historic World Heritage site of Stone Town.

Day 14 Fly back to Dar es Salaam for your international flight home.

Again nothing is fixed and you can mix and match accommodations, you do not have to stay all lodge or all tents, the choice is entirely yours.

Kilimanjaro Area, off the Beaten Track.

Day 1 Depending on your arrival time, we suggest you overnight in Dar es Salaam to start your safari refreshed the next day.

Day 2 - 4 Fly from Dar es Salaam to Arusha to commence your safari in a private 4WD vehicle with especially adapted roof for game viewing, and Drive to The West Kilimanjaro area outside the national park for 3 nights staying in a mobile tented camp or Lodge. This lesser known area borders Kenya's Amboseli Park inthe sight of both Mount Meru amd Kilimanjaro. It is a natural migration path for many species of wildlife. Here activities as well as vehicle game drives, can include hiking, and night game drives, and visiting traditional working Maasai bomas.

Day 5 - 7 Drive south to Lushoto which nestles in the Usambara Mountains. It is an ideal place for trekking, nature lovers and bird watchers, and with-in easy distance for a day visit to Mkomazi Game Reserve, probably the least visited wildlife area.

Day 8 - 11 Transfer to Pangani for 4 days of rest & relaxation on unspoilt beaches north of Dar es Salaam

Day 12 - 13 Fly from Tanga to Zanzibar for 2 nights to explore the historic World Heritage site of Stone Town.

Day 14 Fly back to Dar es Salaam for your international flight home.

Saadani & Pangani

Day 1 Depending on your arrival time, we suggest you overnight in Dar es Salaam to start your safari refreshed the next day.

Day 2 - 5 Drive from Dar es Salaam to the historic town of Bagamoyo and transfer by boat to Saadani National Park where the bush meets the beach, for 4 nights. Activities include river safaris on the Wami River, Sea safaris for snorkelling and where Dolphins are often seen, game drives and walking safaris.

Day 6 - 9 Transfer to the Pangani beaches north of Saadani for 4 nights of rest and relaxation.

Day 10 -11 Fly from Tanga to Zanzibar for 2 nights to explore the historic World Heritage site of Stone Town.

Day 12 Fly back to Dar es Salaam for your international flight home.

The Western Parks of Mahali & Katavi

Day 1 Depending on your arrival time, we suggest you overnight in Dar es Salaam to start your safari refreshed the next day.

Day 2 - 8 Fly from Dar es Salaam to Arusha for your connecting shared charter to Mahali. Spend 7 nights between the 2 remote parks of Mahali and Katavi. Mahali, on the shores of Lake Tanganyika, is famous for Chimpanzee trekking as well as being an area of outstanding natural beauty. Activities include Chimp trekking, Dhow trips, snorkelling and fishing. Katavi is seldom visited but has abundant wildlife in the Africa of days gone by, being virtually untouched by tourism. Activities include game drives in open vehicles and walking.

Day 9 - 11 Fly on to Ruaha, probably the prettiest and most dramatic park in Tanzania with completely different eco systems to those of Mahali and Katavi, but still very wild. Here Wild Dog, Leopard and Cheetah are often seen. with 2 full days to explore by vehicle and on foot.

Day 12 - 15 Fly onward to Pemba or Mafia Islands for 4 nights of R & R.

Day 16 Fly back to Dar es Salaam for your international flight home.
